Océ Announces Winner of its Second Annual 'Green Reprographer of the Year' Award

Océ recently announced the winner of its second annual, “Green Reprographer of the Year” award during the IRgA 2009 Annual Convention and Trade Show held April 29-May 1 in Pittsburgh, Pa.

Blair Graphics, a leading California-based innovator in the reprographics industry for more than 50 years, was selected as the winner from a pool of qualified entrants who submitted applications via Océ’s Web site. Applicants outlined their achievements in the area of green business practices and explained how these efforts have assisted their customers to meet their own sustainability goals.

An American Reprographics Company (ARC) reprographer, Blair Graphics has incorporated sustainability into nearly every aspect of its business operations. The company uses Océ recycled paper for printing construction and other large format black & white and color documents (Océ 45-111R recycled paper). They also offer small format document printing on recycled paper. The company manufactures wrapped covers on recycled paper for wrapping of prints around a chip-board core instead of wrapping prints with a petroleum-based product. The majority of its mounting substrates are made from recycled materials, and Blair Graphics uses a rice-based adhesive for mounting onto substrates.

LexJet Supplies Lightweight Banners that Will Help Educate Millions of Students

The Lost Generation is a phrase often used to describe the World War I era in America. The Great War itself has largely been lost to our collective memory, a mere shadow of our more recent Technicolor wars. But one professional photographer has set out to change all that, and change it through his art.

About 14 years ago, David DeJonge (pronounced DeYoung), owner of DeJonge Studio Inc. in Grand Rapids, Mich., began photographically documenting the remaining American veterans of World War I as part of the Faces of Five Wars, covering World War I through Desert Storm.

That initial project has led to a vast amount of press coverage, an exhibit in the Pentagon, the drive toward a national WWI monument, and a nationwide traveling educational program to more than a thousand schools that began last month. DeJonge’s project has been featured on every major television network, including CNN, NBC and CBS.

American Reprographics Company Licenses Metaprint Abacus Print Cost Recovery and Print Tracking Software

American Reprographics Company recently announced the general availability of MetaPrint Abacus, the company’s print cost recovery and print tracking software, for licensing to third parties.

MetaPrint Abacus has been in use since 2007, with more than 10,000 users and in hundreds of locations, but this is the first time the company has made the software application available directly to end-users or to third-party suppliers.

When a computer user sends a file to a printer on their own network or to a printer hosted elsewhere, MetaPrint Abacus queries the user via a simple pop-up window to assign a billing or job code to the print job. The codes are stored and used to enhance cost recovery when billing jobs, and can also be used to determine the quantity and type of jobs being printed, the frequency of use and type of printers utilized by a workforce, gauge material consumption, and help manage inventory for print supplies.
