Océ CS4100 Scanner Series Highly Recommended by BERTL
Océ recently announced the Océ CS4100 series large format color scanners have been awarded a Highly Recommended 4-Star BERTL® rating, joining the Océ TDS450 and Océ TCS500 large format printers as Océ products included in this distinctive category.
Each year, independent BERTL research analysts review hundreds of devices, assigning their highly recommended rating to a select few that deliver a range of business-critical features and functions that are above average and provide potential buyers with a good return on investment.
A family of 10 scanners, the Océ CS4100 series offers devices with scan widths of either 36,” 42” or 54.” A high speed S version more than doubles the color scanning speed for the standard version from 0.6 ips to 1.5 ips at 200 dpi. Maximum resolution of the standard and S versions is 1200 dpi. There is also an enhanced quality Q version that has a maximum resolution of 9,600 dpi. Software options include either Océ Scan; an inexpensive, basic scan-to-file application that is easy to use and features scan-to-PDF functionality; or Océ Color Copy, a flexible, feature-rich software that creates a copier out of a scanner and a printer in addition to full scan-to-file functionality. Users can interface with most Océ and non-Océ wide format printers and connect any number of printers to a single scanner.

Inkjet Technologies Study Released
A recent Print Industries Market Information and Research Organization (PRIMIR) study, Trends in Inkjet Technologies reviewed current and emerging inkjet technologies and addressed growth trends and forecasts for adoption of inkjet technologies in selected markets through 2011. Conducted by I.T. Strategies (Hanover, Mass.) in late 2006 and circulated exclusively to PRIMIR members last year, PRIMIR is now offering this study to the printing industry at-large.
With the recent drupa being dubbed, among other things, “the inkjet drupa,” it would seem that inkjet has finally come into the mainstream in the printing industry. I.T. Strategies noted in the study that while the biggest market for inkjet technology is clearly display signage, over the course of the study timeframe (2006-2011), inkjet systems will be developed with the intent of challenging both electrophotography and analog print technologies. In the graphic arts market, production inkjet is at a very early stage with one-third of the production print volume being transaction oriented.
The PRIMIR study provides a thorough analysis and review of the status of inkjet technology, covering thermal, Piezo and continuous inkjet and their usage and adoption in display signage, graphic arts, packaging, manufacturing/deposition and decorative/textile markets.
Many companies, large and small are focusing their R&D efforts on inkjet technology development. The technology development path and adoption rates are covered in this comprehensive report.
The study, Trends in Inkjet Technologies, was distributed exclusively to PRIMIR members in early 2007 and is now available to firms throughout the print industry supply chain.

Perkinson Reprographics Inc., a Phoenix-based construction documentation management company, continues to extend services to additional businesses and markets as the company expands its color graphics services.
PRI continues to serve its traditional market of architects, engineers and contractors with both construction documentation and color graphics services. In addition, PRI now provides color graphics services to markets such as real estate, event organizers, retail stores and other corporations.
Perkinson added that PRI has recently acquired additional equipment to further expand the company’s color graphics offerings. For example, the company purchased a printer that can produce high-quality color graphics on materials up to four feet by eight feet and as thick as two inches.
PRI’s color graphics services include signs, banners, posters, displays, window graphics, back-lit graphics, vehicle wraps, flyers and more in virtually any size and on a wide variety of materials.
Perkinson said the core of PRI’s business will remain construction document management, but the extension of color graphics to other industries allows businesses in Phoenix to take advantage of PRI’s expertise in large-scale and large volume printing.
